Samsung launches world’s first four-camera smartphone

There's not long to go now before the official unveiling of the Galaxy A9 - what else do you reckon it'll have in store? The phone is backed by a 3,800mAh battery.

The story of the Galaxy A9 (2018) starts and arguably ends with the four cameras around back.

The Galaxy A9 sports a first-of-its kind rear quad camera, that includes a 10MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom, an 8MP 120 degree ultra wide lens, a 5MP depth lens, and 24MP main camera.

Up until now some of these features have been provided by software, but Samsung claims the move to hardware will garner better results. The phone is powered by an octa-core processor with 6GB/8GB RAM and 128GB storage, which is expandable up to 512GB via a microSD card slot.

South Korean girl group AOA demonstrate the camera capabilities of the new A9.

The Galaxy A9 2018 features a similar design to the triple-camera Galaxy A7 released earlier this year, although its fingerprint sensor is mounted on the back of its chassis instead of the side. Two of which - Bubblegum Pink and Lemonade Blue - feature a fun colour gradient, while the third - Caviar Black - is a dead serious solid black.

Wall Street tumbles as investors take the knife to tech companies
Big moves in interest rates tend to unsettle investors, and they can also push them to sell stocks and buy bonds instead. On Friday, federal data showed that the US jobless rate fell to 3.7 percent in September, it's lowest point since 1969.

Samsung Galaxy A9 features a 6.3-inch full HD+ AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080x2220 pixels.

Thursday's announcements bear out the tech giant's push to roll out new technology and cutting-edge features for its mid-range devices first ahead of its flagships, in a boost to cheaper models.

Samsung finally laid the speculation to rest and announced the Galaxy A9 (2018).

"We live in a world where phones are central to who we are and how we interact in the world", he said. At the end of the day, the most important aspects of smartphone photography are the shooting experience and image quality, so we're pretty stoked to see if four is better than one (or two).

"With these new phones we are reinventing the way we introduce breakthrough technologies to the people we serve".
