Thousands march through Edinburgh to back Scottish independence

Tens of thousands of people are expected to attend the pro-independence march and rally in Edinburgh today

With her party meeting for its annual conference in Glasgow, Sturgeon is under increasing pressure to explain how Scotland might win independence from the United Kingdom as the clock ticks down on Brexit and her term as first minister.

"I think Scottish independence will happen", she said.

The MP for Ross, Skye and Lochaber will say: "Time and time again, the SNP and others have fought to ensure that Scotland's remain vote is respected in the European Union negotiations - but the Tory cabinet is completely in thrall to the hardline Brexiteers who could not care less about jobs, living standards and public services in Scotland".

Before the SNP conference around 20,000 independence supporters marched through Edinburgh demanding a new vote to break away from the UK.

The UK is due to leave the European Union in March, but the SNP highlight the fact that voters in Scotland backed remain by a margin of 62% to 38%.

Nicola Sturgeon, the SNP leader, has said her MPs would back a new referendum on the Brexit deal, the so-called People's Vote.

After two years of increasingly acrimonious politics following a 2016 52-48 percent Brexit vote, London now appears to be on the brink of a deal with Brussels which would see Britain leave the EU's customs union and single market but retain close ties to facilitate trade.

Why 'The Walking Dead' Season 9 Premiere Ratings Are Misleading
AMC doesn't release numbers for the streaming service, though, so we don't know for sure how many people watched it there. The Walking Dead's premiere was also down sharply from both Season 8's average (7.8 mil/3.4) and finale (7.9 mil/3.4).

"If there is a vote in the House of Commons on a People's Vote on Brexit I would expect the SNP MPs to vote for that if it comes to a vote in the House of Commons".

A second referendum on Brexit would be backed by SNP MPs, according to Nicola Sturgeon.

"So it's great for me to be sitting here on the first day of my party conference with a number of polls showing support for independence rising, the quite extraordinary demonstration of support on the streets of Edinburgh, that's a happy position for an independence-supporting SNP leader to be in".

Support for such a vote has not been ruled out by Labour and it is actively pursued by the Lib Dems, although Prime Minister Theresa May has opposed the move.

"In a campaign, use whatever you can that helps", he added of yesterday's pet prelude.

As a result of the change, dog owners are likely to face increased bureaucracy and need more preparation time in order to take their canine companions to the continent.
