Top EU commissioners 'ruined Europe' - Italy's deputy PM Salvini

Economy Minister Giovanni Tria is doing very well.

The letter called on Italy to ensure that the budget will be "in compliance with the common fiscal rules".

"The only ruins that I will have to scoop up are those of the lovely European dream, destroyed by people like Juncker", he said, adding that he hoped European parliamentary elections set for next May would usher in a new political age.

Mr Juncker said: "Italy is distancing itself from the budgetary targets we have jointly agreed at European Union level".

"I would not wish that, after having really been able to cope with the Greek crisis, we'll end up in the same crisis in Italy".

50 killed, 100 burnt in oil tanker road crash in DR Congo
Officials in Congo say at least 50 people are dead and more than 100 have second-degree burns after a tanker truck caught fire. Most of the injured suffered "second-degree burn injuries" and two mobile clinics were transporting the wounded.

The European Commission will not interfere in Italy's budget planning and assess the budget without bias but propose changes if necessary, European Union Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker told Austrian newspapers.

"So I don't get up in the morning thinking about the judgment that people like Juncker and (EU Economic Affairs Commissioner Pierre) Moscovici, who have ruined Europe and Italy, have of the government and of Italy", Salvini added.

Meanwhile, according to a Reuters report, citing a source, the European Central Bank President Mario Draghi warned the Italian President Sergio Mattarella on Wednesday about the impact of a negative market reaction on the back of Italy's 2019 budget.

When asked by broadcaster La7 about Juncker's suggestion Italy might pose a Greece-like threat to the euro, Salvini replied: "I talk to sober people who don't make comparisons that aren't here nor there".
