5 million pounds of beef recalled for possible salmonella

6.5 Million Pounds of Ground Beef Recalled

The Arizona company JBS Tolleson, Inc. has recalled approximately 6.5 million pounds of ground beef products that may be contaminated with Salmonella Newport, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced in a news release.

Any consumers with ground beef in their refrigerators or freezers should check the product for establishment number "EST". The agency posted a 33-page list of the recalled items, which were shipped to retail locations and institutions across the country.

Some of the products have a sell- or use-by date in late September. Return it to the store or throw it away in a secure garbage can. No deaths have been reported as part of this outbreak. Since the JBS Tolleson recall was caused by salmonella, it may cause more fear for consumers buying any sort of meat.

Salmonella infection typically manifests itself 12 to 72 hours after it is consumed.

"Yesterday, out of an abundance of caution, JBS USA initiated a voluntary recall of ground beef products from our Tolleson, Ariz., beef production facility due to the potential presence of Salmonella", JBS USA spokeswoman Misty Barnes wrote in an email.

"Shame on you!": Protesters, Democrats react to Kavanaugh confirmation
Trump said Murkowski would be punished in her next primary by her Kavanaugh no vote but McConnell didn't go that far. He denied the allegations, but almost all Senate Democrats voted against his confirmation.

Children under the age of 5, adults over the age of 65, and anyone with a weakened immune system are especially at risk of developing severe complications from Salmonella infections.

The symptoms of a Salmonella infection include diarrhea, fever, stomach cramps, nausea, and vomiting. Thirty-one percent of patients have been hospitalized. This takes an average of 2 to 4 weeks.

In interviews, 92% of the 39 people investigators questioned said they ate ground beef at home before they got sick.

The parents of a young Tennessee girl are suing Cargill Meat Solutions, alleging their daughter was hospitalized and developed hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) after eating the contaminated ground beef purchased from a Publix supermarket, according to a lawsuit filed this week in U.S. District Court in Minnesota. When several unrelated ill people ate at the same event or shopped at the same store within several days of each other, it suggests that the contaminated food item was served or sold there. According to the Arizona Department of Health Services, there are 15 confirmed cases of salmonella illnesses linked to raw ground beef.
