Sausages, Bacon Consumption May Cause Higher Breast Cancer Risk

Cancer Research UK has estimated that around 23 percent of breast cancers are preventable, and around 14 out of every 100 women in the UK will develop breast cancer at some point during their lifetime. It pointed out that the study backs up previous findings of the World Health Organization, which says processed meats cause cancer.

This was made known by the Head of Breast Unit at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Florence Dedey.

New research in the International Journal of Cancer suggests that the right approach.

"It is cancer that can be effectively treated if diagnosed early".

"This trend on missing out on diagnosing and treating breast cancer early when it is most amenable to cure can be attributed to several factors including lack of knowledge about breast cancer, over-reliance on ineffective alternative therapies, inadequate facilities and lack of trained personnel and funds". Research consistently shows that drinking alcoholic beverages increases a women's risk of hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer.

Game Boy-style phone modifications aren't a new thing, however their unofficial nature has often resulted in quite the disappointment.

"Alcohol causes one in 13 breast cancers which is why it's so important women are aware of the risks from drinking". Having a mother or sister who had been diagnosed with breast cancer before the age of 50 also places women in a high-risk category for developing the disease.

Dr Nsiah-Asare said late presentation of breast cancer cases was due to low awareness and unavailable mass screening programmes; non-accessibility of specialised treatment centres, and socio-cultural beliefs even among the elite, including women and females in the health profession. But now we have noticed that there are basically four different types of breast cancer. 'Alarmist headlines'Lead author Dr Maryam Farvid, of the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health in the U.S., recommends cutting down on the meat rather than eliminating it, the BBC said. Many women see treatment as one size fits all.

"A lot is being done to ensure that breast cancer patients receive the best care in Ghana. I would like to call on the Ghana Health Service and Ministry of Health to continue to put in and implement the right policies that will ensure effective treatment of breast cancer all across the country".

Dr. Lee also said, that when caught early, breast cancer can be very treatable and survivable.

Stop smoking. Smoking is linked to a higher risk of breast cancer in younger pre-menopausal women.
