Mauricio Pochettino unhappy with Roberto Martinez's Jan Vertonghen injury announcement

Injured in the first 15 minutes of Spurs' Premier League win over Huddersfield Town last Saturday, Vertonghen had been due to meet up with Belgium next week, but will now miss the UEFA Nations League matches for the side that reached the World Cup semi-final, but Martinez's uttering that his 31-year-old defender would be out for the next two global breaks means that the veteran defender will miss at least six works.

"Jan Vertonghen might miss two Belgium camps", he said. "Bad news", Martinez told a news conference.

"What happens if one player says 'no, I don't want to say anything in public?' When you go to the doctor, the doctor can not go outside and say 'Mauricio, come to see me for this and this and this.' Sometimes we forget and we talk too freely".

"We've been following Dennis Praet for a couple of years now", he said.

Asked whether he should be calling national team bosses, he responded: "Why?"

Hugo Lloris analyses the situation in the Champions League after the first two matches of the group stage, which sees Inter and Barcelona joint top in Group B with Six points and Tottenham and Psv on Zero.

Club Brugge defender Brandon Mechele is the only new face to the squad. The football business today doesn't care about the player.

Perez pointed out that Vertonghen was rested for their Carabao Cup tie against Watford. The defender picked up the issue inside the opening 15 minutes but played on until half-time as he thought it was just a knock. "In that action he injured the hamstring and then carried on playing for nearly half an hour because he thought it was just a knock".

"It could take a while because it's not a normal injury, like striking the ball or sprinting".

With Mousa Dembele (thigh), Dele Alli (hamstring), Christian Eriksen (abdominal) and Serge Aurier (thigh) also out, Pochettino said: 'The problem comes because you need more players.

"One component that's important is the adrenaline when you're playing football is so high, and you don't realise [what's happened]", he said". "Maybe from outside it looks not good, but inside it's OK".

"If we don't play well it's not because of the pitch".

"I understand the national teams want their best players".
