Iran blames two Gulf states for military parade attack

In local media, officials began to say that a regional group of Sunni Arab separatists which Iran claims is funded by Saudi Arabia and which has bombed targets in the province in the past were responsible for the attack.

Rouhani did not name the "mercenary" U.S. allies but he could be referring to regional foe Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.

It answers to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and runs its own business empire in Iran, a major oil producer that has been relatively stable compared with Arab states that have grappled with unrest since uprisings in 2011.

While Iranian officials have not directly named the Gulf states, their comments are believed to be directed at Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Israel, which all have hostile relations with Iran and have promised to counter its influence in the region, including inside the country.

Tehran has, meanwhile, openly blamed the U.S. and its allies in the Middle East for backing the attackers. The group provided no evidence for the claim.

Saturday's attack, in which militants disguised as soldiers opened fire on an annual Iranian military parade in Ahvaz, was the deadliest attack in the country in almost a decade.

Elderly people, women and children also died.

Iran's Armed Forces staged the countrywide military parades to mark the Sacred Defense Week on the 38th anniversary of the onset of the Iraqi imposed war on the Islamic Republic back in 1980.

One of the victims was a four-year-old girl.

Who does Iran blame for the attack?

At least eight Revolutionary Guard members have been killed and 20 injured in an attack on a military parade in the Iranian city of Ahvaz. Some members of the ethnic separatist movements are based in the European countries.

Within hours of Saturday's attack, Iran summoned diplomats from Denmark, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom, with IRNA reporting they were "informed of Iran's strong protests over their respective countries' hosting of some members of the terrorist group".

He showed he has got guts and guile and heart, and that he can demolish the most stubborn and the most doughty of opponents. Povetkin had the better of the opening rounds and caught Joshua at the end of the first - wobbling the Brit at the bell.

The Saudi-backed al-Ahvaziya terror group, which is based in Europe, has claimed responsibility for the assault.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corp (IRGC) has been the sword and shield of Shi'ite clerical rule in Iran since its 1979 Islamic Revolution.

A video distributed to Iranian media showed soldiers crawling to escape gunfire. Women and children fled for their lives. The chaos was captured live on state television. Standing in front of the stand, one asked: "Where did they come from?"

"The declared policy of the United States of America should be the overthrow of the mullahs' regime in Tehran", Bolton told Iranian exiles in July 2017.

Only a year ago, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman explained in an interview that Saudi Arabia would take the fight to "inside Iran". In exchange, some worldwide sanctions were lifted, allowing Iran to rejoin the global financial system and sell its crude oil to American allies.

They also initially wrongly said the Ahvaz attack targeted Rouhani, who was in Tehran. Two of the attackers were killed and two were arrested, the deputy governor said.

"Rouhani will use the terrorist attack to justify Iran's presence in the Middle East".

"One of the countries in the south of the Persian Gulf took care of their financial, weaponry and political needs".

Mr. Rouhani will face U.S. President Donald Trump at the UN General Assembly this week.

Fereidoun Majlesi, a former diplomat and foreign policy expert, told MEE: "I think the proxy war between Saudi Arabia and Iran is entering a risky phase".

A photo of the wounded boy resting motionless in a soldier's arms circulated on Saturday after the shooting, which killed at least 25 people and wounded about 60 others.
