Nadal to miss Asian tournaments due to knee injury

Rafael Nadal will skip the Asian tour to recover from another knee injury

Rafael Nadal has pulled out of the China Open and Shanghai Masters after injuring his knee during the recent US Open.

He has since been to see a specialist who advised him to miss the upcoming tournaments.

Nadal won Beijing a year ago and made the finals in Shanghai, so he will lose 1,100 ranking points while Novak Djokovic has no points to defend the rest of the season.

Rafael Nadal of Spain faces Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina in a men's semi-final match on day twelve of the 2018 U.S. Open tennis tournament at USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

"While the annoyances on my knee are nothing new, we have decided together with my medical and technical team, not to participate in the Asian tour to recover the knee the way we have always done", he tweeted.

The 32-year-old Nadal, who has often dealt with knee pain, won the Beijing tournament last year.

Nadal will not return to defend the title he won in Beijing past year due to the 'annoyances on my knee, ' he said in a statement on Twitter.

Nadal's total points tally will drop to 7,660 over the coming weeks - 760 more than Federer and 1,215 more than Djokovic.

But Djokovic is now primed to snatch Nadal's No. 1 ranking after a magnificent summer saw him win at Wimbledon and defeat del Potro in the US Open final.

Beneath the top three of Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic are Del Potro, Alexander Zverev, Marin Cilic, Grigor Dimitrov and Dominic Thiem.
