Hong Kong Airline Cathay Pacific Spells Own Name Wrong On Plane

Can you spot the difference? Hong Kong airline Cathay Pacific tickled by bad spelling

Hong Kong-based airline Cathay Pacific had a lettering mishap on a Boeing 777-367, and it didn't go unnoticed.

The mistake was initially spotted by members of the public at Hong Kong International Airport.

Marketing stunt or not, Twitter users took the opportunity to make gags at the airline's expense. "She's going back to the shop!" the company joked on Twitter.

But the Twitterverse responded with a mix of amusement and amazement.

Reaction on social media varied, with some mocking the error.

Mental Patients Chained in Back of Sheriff’s Van Drown During Florence
The Lumber River as of September 19 was still in "major" flood stage in several places, according to the National Weather Service. The van was attempting to cross a flooded area of Highway 76 in Marion County when it got swept away, according to cops.

While the airline said it was a simple and genuine oversight, some still found the mistake hard to defend. "There should be a blank gap in between letters if it was a real mistake I think".

"No f's were given that day", quipped Aghiad Haloul, while Frank L asked if "CATHAY PACFFC" was on the other side of the fuselage.

And although the airlines believes it was down to a mistake, an engineer for Haeco - Cathay Pacific's sister company - isn't convinced. "Air travel needs to lighten up".

Cathay Pacific was founded in 1946 and has a network which covers 53 destinations across the Asia-Pacific region, including 23 in mainland China.
