Aurora Cannabis says no deal yet to make marijuana-infused drinks

Coca-Cola in Talks to Make Marijuana-Infused Soft Drink

Sources told BNN Bloomberg that the world's largest beverage company is interested in developing drinks that are infused with cannabidiol, the non-psychoactive element in cannabis also known as CBD.

Canada is set to legalize cannabis on 17 October after both houses of Parliament voted to make the drug available for recreational use. Coke is looking to team up with the Canadian marijuana farm Aurora Cannabis to develop the beverages.

"In a separate statement, Aurora said it would not discuss the venture until it has been finalised, but added: "[we have] expressed specific interest in the infused beverage space, and we intend to enter that market". "No decisions have been made at this time", read the statement.

Cannabidiol is a non-psychoactive ingredient in marijuana that treats pain but does not get one high.

A Canadian startup is experimenting with beer brewed from stalks, stem and roots of the cannabis plant, as the country heads towards legalisation of marijuana as a recreational product from next month.

Coca-Cola denies reports they are looking at making cannabis-based drinks

Shares of the company, Aurora Cannabis, closed up almost 17% on the Toronto Stock Exchange after the report.

The beverage giant's interest is another indication of the growing acceptance of cannabis by established companies.

Marijuana will become legal across all of Canada on October 17, and cannabis companies have flocked to that country recently to raise money and start businesses there, according to the Associated Press.

Soft drinks corporation Coca-Cola is in talks with a cannabis producer to develop marijuana drinks. At this time the Company confirms there is no agreement, understanding or arrangement with respect to any partnership with a beverage company.

"The company has been caught flat-footed in the past in not keeping up with trends in beverages". She said she would not be surprised to hear of a similar deal by PepsiCo for its Gatorade drink. "You don't want to be too far ahead on any curve".
