Renders of upcoming Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL leaks online

Google Pixel 3 Pixel 3 XL renders

New renders of the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL have leaked, and they look like they could be official renders from Google.

The Reddit post apologized for the error, adding that: "We have now rolled battery saver settings back to default. Please configure to your liking". The fact this was an internal experiment that got pushed out to a number of users by accident is worrying, despite being only a minor change. Google apologized in its response to Redditors, saying "Sorry for the confusion".

A whole host of Android Pie users recently noticed that their phone's Battery Saver mode had been activated without their input, and as a result, their handset was limiting the background activity of certain key applications, disabling high-drain processes (such as location tracking) and generally slowing the phone down to retain as much juice as possible. However, it does so by limiting some of the more battery-hungry features on the device.

The test affected Android users running Android Pie, rather than just Pixel phones specifically. Along with anecdotal reports from users about non-Pixel phones being impacted, Mishaal Rahman from XDA Developers noted that their OnePlus 6 was mysteriously in battery saver mode too.

Others were seemingly understanding, or they had at least come to peace with the fact that Google could change a smartphone's settings without notification.

At the time of this publication, Google had not responded to a request for comment.

On Friday, some Android smartphone users reported that their battery-saving settings were enabled without their knowledge or consent. The notion that Google could remotely change settings on their smartphones was not well received, especially in instances when the phone's owner wasn't notified of the change first.
