Brett Kavanaugh sexual harassment accusations: All you need to know

After Dr. Christine Blasey Ford came forward and publicly accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her while the two were in high school, conservatives quickly questioned her credibility and claimed that it's likely she fabricated her accusations, without any evidence backing up their suggestion that she must be lying.

Grassley added, "Accusers deserve to be heard and, after they're heard and we also have a responsibility to hear judge Kavanaugh, and I want to hear from Dr. Ford, and she deserved to be heard, because these are serious accusations".

Just days before the Senate Judiciary Committee was set to vote on the Kavanaugh nomination, a woman named Christine Blasey Ford came forward with sexual assault allegations dating back to the 1980s.

Trump nominated Kavanaugh in July to succeed retiring Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy, who announced his retirement in June. "She's willing to do whatever it takes to get her story forth, yes".

Ford and her attorney have yet to respond to invitations to testify at a public hearing about her allegations against Kavanaugh.

Katz said Ford believes "she would have been raped" by Kavanaugh had he not been drunk. Furthermore, as the Department of Justice has already made clear, the FBI's jurisdiction only extends to potential federal crimes, not local crimes such as sexual assaults in private residences. "I hope Republican Voters, and others, are watching and studying, the Democrats Playbook". De Leon, who is challenging Feinstein in the November 6 election, said her actions amounted to a "failure of leadership".

On Tuesday, Ford's lawyers sent a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee, which is handling Kavanaugh's confirmation, insisting that the FBI investigate her charge before she testifies to the committee.

Republicans are suggesting Ms Ford will have just one chance to give evidence. Earlier this year, she asked a top Immigration and Custom Enforcement official if he'd send his child to family detention centers if they were so much like "summer camps".

In the end, Thomas was confirmed; he is now the most senior justice on the court.

Feinstein, who has been backed by several fellow Senate Democrats, said Tuesday she was honoring Ford's request to keep the information confidential.

Vikings cut rookie kicker Carlson after 3 missed FGs in tie
The Vikings have legitimate Super Bowl expectations, and a rookie kicker choked away a road win over their chief division rival. But on Sunday, in his second regular-season game, he went 0-of-3 on field goals.

Her lawyer, Lisa Banks, told CNN her client has been "deflecting death threats and harassment".

Blasey Ford anxious that coming forward with the allegations against Kavanaugh would lead to personal attacks against her, which have already begun.

In the week since Feinstein legitimized the letter's existence, the response to Ford's account has been damning.

"I have never done anything like what the accuser describes - to her or to anyone", Kavanaugh said in a statement issued by the White House, his first comment since Ford's identity was revealed on Sunday.

Republicans' control of the Senate means they need no Democratic support to confirm Kavanaugh.

"I did not ask to be involved in this matter nor did anyone asked me to be involved", Judge said in a written statement forwarded to the committee by his attorney, Barbara Van Gelder.

Kavanaugh has repeatedly denied the allegations.

"Now this is really what #MeToo is all about, if you think about it", said Sen.

Republican Sen. Susan Collins of ME, who has been wooed by Kavanaugh opponents hoping she'll vote with the Democrats, tweeted Tuesday she was "respectfully recommending" that at Monday's hearing the counsel for Ford be allowed to question Kavanaugh.

The lawyers wrote that Ford, who is now a college professor in California, wants to co-operate with the committee.
