Red Cross responds to Hurricane Florence

The American Red Cross is helping people in multiple states as Hurricane Florence pummels the Carolinas with strong winds, heavy rain and unsafe tidal surges.

A crisis response page has been set up to allow Facebook users to alert others if they are in the affected area. The state of North Carolina is accepting disaster relief donations.

She recommends that people send money donations to the Red Cross if they would like to help but are not physically able to volunteer.

Richard Smith, The Executive Director of the American Red Cross for Central and Western South Dakota, says their volunteers are prepared to help in any way possible.

Customers wishing to make a donation should specify the amount when they purchase their groceries.

"These are firefighters from New York who have raised their hands to go out in these risky situations and help Americans in their darkest moments", said Josh Lockwood, the CEO of the American Red Cross of Greater New York.

Another way to help is to text FLORENCE to 90999, which provides a $10 donation to the Red Cross. Alabama organizations have been preparing for days to help those areas that might be in need.
