YouTube now lets parents decide exactly what kids can watch

YouTube Kids

The YouTube Kids new parent approved content feature allows parents to pick every video and channel available to their child in the app. YouTube also urges parents to block and flag inappropriate content that might have seeped past YouTube Kids' filters.

The new tools are available in the Android app for US users from today and will be coming to other regions and iOS in the near future. On a serious note, parents can enable the "Approved content only" mode, then can add channels and specific videos to a child's watchlist. To make things much easier, you can choose entire channels, collections or videos belonging to a certain creator by tapping the "+" button. Interestingly, a report from April had speculated that these whitelisting capabilities would soon be rolled out on the YouTube Kids app. This feature will not allow the child to search for content on their own. It's launched a new feature for kids aged 8 to 12 that lets parents select an "Older" setting that opens up age-appropriate content geared towards their interests: music videos and video game content, for example. As a matter fact, two updates have been launched today, which bring parent-approved content and a new YouTube experience for older kids.

The "Older Kids" mode expands the video content they can now view to include popular music and gaming videos, and more. Some of the changes may come via a server-side switch, but there was a new version of the app released yesterday, so it can't hurt to install that - we also have it at APK Mirror. The new "older" experience is only available in the United States at this point, but YouTube plans to offer it globally in the future.

Apple 2018 Event Recap: iPhone Xs, Xs Max, Xr, Apple Watch
Luckily, if you owned a previous iPhone that came with a wired dongle, you can still use that with the new Apple handsets. Release date: The iPhone XR will be available in three different variants - 64GB, 128GB and 256GB.

Of course, the new whitelisting feature and tween experience won't be flawless, YouTube said.

"We work hard to make videos in the app family friendly, but no system is ideal". "It's always possible that a parent may find something they don't want their child to watch in the "Younger" or "Older" experiences".
