United States troops from N. Korea remains to be identified soon

Jennie Jin a forensic anthropologist shows some of the objects that accompanied the human remains handed over by North Korea

Forensic scientists have identified two sets of remains of US troops killed in the Korean War, turned over by North Korea.

Mattis told Pentagon reporters that experts moved swiftly on analyzing those two sets of remains, as they thought they had a good chance of identifying them because of where they were located and other information.

Byrd said the names will be announced publicly once the family is notified, the report said.

The Pentagon said US and North Korean military officials held negotiations last week on surrendering more remains.

Jennie Jin, a forensic anthropologist who leads the Korea War Project at the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA), shows some of the objects that accompanied the human remains handed over by North Korea, including a wallet, buttons and canteens, at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii September 10, 2018. They were welcomed home to the Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam by Vice President Mike Pence, who described the event as "just a beginning" as work will not stop until all of the missing are fully accounted for.

Fierce Hurricane Florence aims at southeast US
These categories are based only on the speed of sustained winds, not other deadly factors like storm surge, rainfall or flooding. Susan Faulkenberry Panousis has stayed in her Bald Head Island, North Carolina home during prior hurricanes, but not this time.

Both service members were determined to have died in late 1950 near the Chongchon River and the remains were identified using DNA analysis and historical documents, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Almost 7,700 US service members were listed as missing and unaccounted for from the 1950-53 Korean War.

But the next round of identifications might take longer and might be completed "right after Christmas", Byrd added. The US military estimates that more than 7,000 US troops who lost their lives during the Korean War remain unaccounted for.

The US has successfully identified two American service members from among the remains North Korea returned this July as part of the agreement signed by President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore.
