Missy Elliott surprises viral video star who sang "Work It"

Missy Elliott performs onstage during the 2018 Essence Festival presented By Coca Cola- Day 2 at Louisiana Superdome

"It was a shock", Halsey tells DeGeneres of her success. The two met on "Ellen" and performed a duet. But soon after taking the stage, Missy Elliott strolled out to join her. Halsey, clearly stunned, quickly shakes off the surprise, throws her arm around Elliott and keeps on working it. "I've been singing that song for 15 years", she said.

"I learned; and I read the words; and I studied it and the reaction that I got was so positive that it became my go-to song", she said. "Everything", Elliott answered. "When she first said, 'Missy's funky white sister, ' I'm like, 'Who is this?!' So when I listen, I'm like, she know [s] all the words, but the sound effects - she made the elephant noise, all of that..." "Everybody wants to hear it". The best part about the performance, however, is that Halsey had no idea the rapper would be joining her.

During the second chorus of the song, a hyped-up Missy walks on stage as Halsey stops rapping as a result of her shock. Ellen DeGeneres has a reputation for bringing viral sensations onto her show and connecting them with celebrities. Missy revealed that the mumbled lyrics right after the line, "I put my thing down, flip it and reverse it", are actually that same phrase - only reversed.
