Marin Mazzie Dead - Broadway Star Dies at 57 | Marin Mazzie, RIP

Broadway star, Boylan grad Marin Mazzie dies at 57 of cancer

"The divine and courageous Marin Mazzie was #TonyAwards-nominated for PASSION, RAGTIME, and KISS ME, KATE".

Marin Mazzie, the theatre star who created roles in Broadway musicals by Stephen Sondheim, Ahrens and Flaherty, and more, died September 13 morning, surrounded by her family and friends, at 57 following a three-year battle with ovarian cancer.

Broadway actress and three-time Tony nominee Marin Mazzie died this morning in NY.

Mazzie starred on Broadway as Helen Sinclair in Woody Allen's BULLETS OVER BROADWAY for which she received the Outer Critics Circle Award, and also appeared opposite real life husband, Jason Danieley on Broadway in NEXT TO NORMAL.

The actress and soprano was born and raised in Rockford, Ill., and attended Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo to study theater. They married the following year, and later would perform in concert together. She made her NY stage debut in the 1983 revival of Where's Charley? and first rose to prominence as Beth in Merrily We Roll Along at California's La Jolla Playhouse in 1985. Her starring role in 1999's Kiss Me, Kate brought her third nomination.

Officials said some 1.7 million people in the Carolinas and Virginia were warned to evacuate, but it's unclear how many did. "Catastrophic effects will be felt outside the center of the storm due to storm surge as high as 9 to 13 feet".

"The lights of Broadway all shine a little dimmer tonight", wrote Daniel Dae Kim, her co-star in 2016's The King and I.

Her Off-Broadway appearances comprised the revival of CARRIE (Drama Desk and Lucille Lortel Award nominations) as well as THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES, THE TROJAN WOMEN: A LOVE STORY, and THE WORLD GOES ROUND (also National Tour). They later released an album of these songs, Opposite You, on the P.S. Classics label. Her father, Jack Mazzie, was a television station general manager. They had planned to unveil a new show, Heart to Heart, in NY this past June, but were forced to cancel due to Mazzie's health.

Ms. Mazzie is survived by her mother Donna Mazzie, brother Mark Mazzie and her husband Jason Danieley.

Mazzie was regarded as a dedicated performer by all who knew her, notably refusing to pull out of a 2015 concert production of Zorba! on the day she received her initial cancer diagnosis.
