Visitor tumbles into ‘Descent Into Limbo’ installation at Portuguese Museum

British artist Anish Kapoor

An unidentified Italian man, who was believed to be about 60, required hospital treatment for back injuries after he fell into "Descent into Limbo", The Times of London reported.

A man visiting a Portuguese art museum was injured Monday after he fell down an installation consisting of a hole that has been made to look like a black circle painted on the ground.

The hole is painted with an extremely black paint that helped create the illusion that the hole was bottomless, or lacking any depth at all.

The 1992 work is a cube-shaped structure which small numbers of visitors enter. Coyote was always falling in holes he'd left for the Road Runner, but as eagle-eyed viewers will have observed, that was just a cartoon - you don't expect it to happen in real life.

Moderate Carbohydrate Intake May be Best for Health, Study Suggests
Based on first principles, a U-shaped association is logical between most essential nutrients versus health outcomes. The conclusion was that a moderate carb intake of 50-55% is correlated to 4 more years of life.

Anish Kapoor stands next to his artwork during the opening of his exhibition Works, Thoughts, Experiments at the Fundação de Serralves in Porto, Portugal, on July 6, 2018.

While the man spent some days in hospital, he is reportedly recovering and "almost" ready to return home, The Art Newspaper reports.

Visitors are required to sign a disclaimer acknowledging the safety risk of viewing the installation, a spokesman for the museum told The Times. This included posting a gallery staff in the installation and the placement of warning signs. The exhibit "is an expression of Kapoor's interests in the formal and metaphoric play between light and darkness, inside and outside, the contained and the infinite, which underpins his sculptural oeuvre".

Meanwhile, the exhibit was closed off temporarily to investigate what really happened.
