IndyCar racer Robert Wickens' frightening crash halts Pocono race

Robert Wickens lifelined following horrific crash at Pocono

"Robert Wickens was awake and alert when he came here and he's being transported to LeHigh Valley Cedarcrest hospital in Allentown for evaluation".

Schmidt Peterson Motorsports driver Wickens was challenging Ryan Hunter-Reay's Andretti Autosport Dallara-Honda for fourth place through Turn 2 when his right-front wheel made contact with the left-rear of the Andretti machine.

"I was lucky to get out of that one", said Hunter-Reay. Wickens' vehicle launched over the top of Hunter-Reay and into the catch fencing, spinning around and destroying the fencing. Debris flew across the track, and Wickens' auto damaged the fence.

Medical workers calmly attended to Wickens, and the Canadian was taken to an ambulance before he was transported to the helicopter. The impact of the wreck tore out a large section of fencing that IndyCar said would take at least one hour to fix.

Alexander Rossi won the race and said it was "tough to celebrate" with Wickens in the hospital.

It was also the worst since the accident in 2015 that took the life of Justin Wilson, who was hit in the head by the dislodged nose piece of Sage Karam's auto after Karam spun out and crashed into the wall in Turn 1 while leading the race. Behind them, the accordion effect collected the second SPM Honda of James Hinchcliffe, Dale Coyne Racing's Pietro Fittipaldi and Rahal Letterman Lanigan's second auto of Takuma Sato, all fortunately without serious injury. Hinchcliffe was caught up in the wreck and held his wrists as he slowly left the auto.

Workers sign protest letter over China Google
According to media reports, Google will not seek another contract when the current Project Maven contract expires in 2019. Google's employees said they need more information to determine whether it raises "urgent moral and ethical issues".

The four other drivers were checked at the race track's medical centre and cleared to continue.

"We came out in some traffic - it was really, really hard to get behind cars for some reason today", Rossi said. I was just trying to slow down and get down. It's never good to see a auto go up (into the fence) like that, but I know he is in good hands. "Hopefully, we'll see him back in the vehicle soon".

"That's the worst thing you can see".

Guelph, Ontario's Robert Wickens was taken to hospital after a violent crash at the IndyCar ABC Supply 500.

United States driver Graham Rahal - who crashed prior to the race's rolling start - tweeted his support during the lengthy delay. Pigot spun and hit the wall. "Hopefully we'll see him back in the auto soon". "The start can be debated for years, but doesn't matter right now, focus on the well-being of our friends and competitors". Wickens then collected the catch fence and pirouetted along the safety fence. Sebastien Bourdais raised concerns about the quality of the repairs and condition of the fence before he got back in the auto.

"When we saw the extent of the damage I had a pretty good idea that it wasn't gonna get fixed properly, and it wasn't", he said.
