Watchmen gets HBO series order, teaser poster revealed

Damon Lindelof’s ‘Watchmen’ Comics Adaptation Gets a Series Order at HBO

Watchmen heads to HBO sometime in 2019.

After receiving a pilot order in 2017, Damon Lindelof's Watchmen project has been given a series order at HBO, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed.

The series is based on the DC graphic novel from Alan Moore, artist Dave Gibbons, and colorist John Higgins.

And the cast is star-filled and sprawling: Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Adelaide Clemens, Andrew Howard, Tom Mison, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, Dylan Schombing, Lily Rose Smith and Adelynn Spoon (whew!).

Like the original graphic novel, this will be set in an alternate timeline where superheroes are basically vigilantes - more often than not, everymen with silly costume gimmicks that border on the ridiculous.

Scarlett Johansson tops highest-paid actress list for 2018
Coming in at #2 for the highest paid actresses of 2018 is Angelina Jolie at $28 million thanks to Disney's Maleficent 2 . Even more impressive? The actress quadrupled her earnings as it's reported she took in less than $11.5 million in 2017.

In Nobody Asked for This News, there's a Watchmen series headed your way in 2019. However, from what we can tell, this story takes place closer to the modern-day, decades after Ozymandias' evil plan at the end of the graphic novel resulted in the death of millions of innocents.

Moore and Gibbons' comic series, was previously adapted into a Watchmen feature film in 2009 by Zack Snyder, who is not involved in the TV series. Nicole Kassell will executive produce and direct the pilot. Watchmen is produced for HBO by White Rabbit in association with Warner Bros.

The show comes from Damon Lindelof, the man behind Lost and The Leftovers so that's already a good sign.

The original miniseries looms large in superhero comics, and has been revisited by DC in the 2012 prequel miniseries Before Watchmen and, currently, Doomsday Clock, which links the events and characters of Watchmen to DC Rebirth continuity. "New faces. New masks to cover them".
