Koepka: From injury to two major wins | Sports , Other Sports

Tiger Woods almost came back to win the PGA Championship in historic fashion Sunday.

Until his second place at Bellerive, Woods had not finished in the top 10 at the PGA Championship since and had failed to even make the cut since 2013.

Koepka proved his triumph at wide-open Erin Hills was no fluke, grinding to victory at one-over par on a brutal Shinnecock course that sent Tiger Woods and Jordan Spieth, among others, packing early. Behind him, Koepka holed his two birdie putts.

Woods finished in second place, two shots behind victor Brooks Koepka, but his surge and a pretty good round of 64 resulted in a huge spike in overnight ratings and market share for CBS compared to 2017.

Captain Jim Furyk danced around the question when asked about Woods' status, but his answer did seem to suggest that Tiger would be on the team as a player.

Woods was either in the lead or tied for the lead heading into the final day of every single one of his 14 major wins, and this was the only time he has led after 54 holes and not won.

"I want to make sure I have five vice-captains there", Furyk said. "Sixth place at the Open, second place at the PGA".

It's a pity because take him back to the way he drove the ball around the turn of the century (with a short, heavy steel shafted club and a reasonable sized head) and he would still be far and away the best player in the game. We want the players who are going to help us be successful. "I can't even put into words how well I played".

He closed with a 4-under 66 for a two-shot victory over Woods and took his place among the elite in golf.

No matter what happens over the next few weeks, Woods will be at the Ryder Cup; he was named a vice-captain last winter and Furyk said he would replace him in that role Woods is on the team. He's priceless, to be honest with you.

"It's been a big boost to having maybe the best player who ever lived following your group and being there for support".

Furyk will keep an eye open for players who impress in events over the next month. Webb Simpson kept hold of the last spot, meaning that the side already contain seven major winners.

Ten people injured in Manchester shooting - 12-Aug
Ten people have been injured, although many of their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening. He said the shooting was "a reckless act that could have had devastating consequences".

Koepka has now won three of the last six majors he's played in. And they are hoping this run from the 42-year-old will be maintained for a while.

Woods finished 11th in the Ryder Cup rankings, but most feel he is a lock for one of the four captain's picks.

However, Faldo was shocked.

Woods has never been someone who was satisfied with second.

But if his powers of recovery from that grim scenario were remarkable then so, too, were his escapology feats in St Louis.

Furyk will name three of his captain's picks on September 3, and will announce the final selection a week later. I think there's a lot of folks out there who probably think he can help us.

Plus, we've got videos of parkour, an incredible catch and one athlete none of us envy today.

Woods struggled through the two opening rounds at Pebble Beach as he carded a 74 and 72 to head into the weekend four over par.

Le Golf National is a great golf course in my opinion, but it suits a certain style of player. If he wins again, it would be the greatest comeback in sport.

You could argue it's a case of platitudes not being worth much unless you really act on them. The brilliant match player Walter Hagen won it fives times, as did Nicklaus. Woods is due to play next week at the Northern Trust Open in New Jersey, the first event of the FedEx Cup play-off series which features four events in five weeks with a US$10 million (NZ$15.2 million) bonus for the victor.

Could Woods also help the USA team in its bid to retain the Ryder Cup for the first time since 1993? Correction: Woods is the conversation.
