B.C. adds 11200 jobs in July, erasing previous month's losses

Despite a surge in part-time employment across the nation Saskatchewan and Prince Albert did not fare

Despite that growth in the job market, only an estimated 200 jobs were added since end of July 2017.

Today's focus will be on Canada's jobless rate as Stats Can is set to release July's employment numbers.

Canada's economy added more jobs than expected last month.

Here at home, Prince Albert's unemployment rate took a steep climb, surging to its highest point in months and reaching 11.2 per cent. When compared to neighbouring provinces, British Columbia's unemployment rate dropped to five per cent and Saskatchewan is also lower at 6.6 per cent, despite a 0.3-per-cent increase. However, the contraction is only a small dent in the region's tight jobs market, which has added 16,400 positions since the start of the year and sports an unemployment rate of 4.5 per cent, up from 4.4 per cent in June.

Porter, however, maintained the national labour market remains robust and wrote there is "easily enough here" to convince the Bank of Canada to keep on track in gradually tightening its key interest rate.

Nadal advances to third round in Rogers Cup
Greece's Stefanos Tsitsipas set up a match against Djokovic, knocking off seventh-seeded Dominic Thiem of Austria, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6). Unseeded Canadian and former world number three Raonic was no match for Frances Tiafoe in a 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 6-1 loss.

"Ontario's share of paid employment in Canada [is] at roughly 39% in 2018, an increase compared to previous year".

First is the fact the gains came on the back of 82,000 less desirable part-time positions while the country shed 28,000 full-time jobs.

Another weak point in the monthly jobs data was a 36,500 drop in goods-producing industries, including a net decline of 18,400 in manufacturing.

Average hourly wages in July, a figure watched closely by the central bank, rose by 3.0 percent from a year earlier.

"While a big increase in jobs brings this series more in line with what we've seen from other indicators this year, the details leave us somewhat skeptical that the move won't be at least partly reversed in August", he said in a research note.
