Three things Manchester United learned in win over Leicester City

How one Man Utd youngster is helping Fred settle in at the club

World Cup victor Paul Pogba's third minute penalty and a late goal from Luke Shaw gave Manchester United a 2-1 win over Leicester City at Old Trafford in the opening game of the Premier League season on Friday.

Both sides' top scorers from last season, Romelu Lukaku and Vardy, started on the bench after their World Cup exertions and were introduced for the final quarter.

"We have to wait for end of November, beginning of December to understand how things are going and if we can fight for the title. He got the captaincy and played very well, but Mourinho will have noticed the line and there will always be a response, because there always is".

"It was very good to go out there, to feel the fans supporting us and to play at home in Old Trafford is always good", he told MUTV".

"I am someone who is not [in] a role that I give to myself".

Manchester United's transfer woes in pre-season has left Jose Mourinho feeling more like a head coach than a manager as his targets were reportedly vetoed.

New Zealand marches towards a greener future; bans single-use plastic bags
In a press statement, Sage said she was confident New Zealanders, whether in support or not, would embrace the change. The group said it would begin to offer a range of pay-for plastic-free reusable bags.

Pogba, who was given the captaincy by Mourinho on Friday, summed up what it meant for him to be happy and comfortable.

"It will be a hard season for everybody, not just for us", said Mourinho.

Andreas Pereira, making his first United appearance since February 2016, looked sharp in midfield as did Pogba, who saw a long-range shot denied before Shaw's tried his luck. "They're all here, they help me, my teammates, obviously it makes me want to give them love and give them good performances on the pitch". I came from the academy, I played for the first team. "It's a different team, obviously". Don't get me wrong, Mourinho does love to remind the opposition whenever his side scores, but his celebration following Shaw's goal was something else.

Speaking of confidence, the 25-year-old was under severe scrutiny from pundits and fans last season and this led to multiple under-par performances.

"There are ways to improve your team: one way is to spend a lot of money and to bring in lots of important players, another way is to work and that's the way we have to do it", he added.

"And wearing this armband, it's even more [special] because of the past, because of the players that played here, the people that have been wearing this".
