Rio Ferdinand reacts to failed moves for Alderweireld, Maguire and Varane

Rio Ferdinand has advised Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho

As far as Maguire is concerned, he seems focused on the season ahead after a decent start against Manchester United in the Premier League opener.

Jose Mourinho was desperate to bolster his defensive options this summer and Tottenham's Alderweireld, Maguire of Leicester City and Real Madrid star Varane were all targeted.

'I thought he was a definite [to sign for Manchester United]... he would have been my go-to choice to be honest'.

British media have reported that Jose Mourinho's United could be set to launch a world record bid for a defender on the back of Maguire's impressive World Cup campaign in Russian Federation where England reached the semi-finals for the first time in 28 years.

Asked about United's interest, Leicester boss Puel joked with the media at his pre-match press conference on Thursday.

The same article says that Leicester City are closing in on two deals to sign centre-halves this summer as they line up potential replacements for Maguire.
