Idris Elba fuels speculation that he’s the next James Bond

Daniel Craig

Idris Elba has posted a cryptic tweet, fuelling speculation he could be the next James Bond.

The star of shows such as The Wire and Luther on Sunday posted an artistic selfie under the words "my name's Elba, Idris Elba", echoing the spy's famous catchphrase.

A few hours later, however, he posted an image of the rap group Public Enemy and followed it up with the titular lyric from one of their most famous songs, "Don't Believe The Hype".

Rumours about Elba being next in line for the role after Daniel Craig holsters his gun and leaves the franchise for good next year have been swirling since 2014.

The latest round of speculation appears to have begun with a report in the Daily Star last week.

The original story came from United Kingdom tabloid The Daily Star, which claimed that director Antoine Fuqua spoke with James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli about implementing a Black James Bond into the franchise.

Torchlight Frontiers announced for 2019
You'll still be teaming up, hacking and slashing enemies and collecting loot. We're proud to have Echtra Games as a part of the company.

A representative for Fuqua, however, disputed the report, telling The Hollywood Reporter, "He never had a conversation with Barbara about the franchise or about any casting".

Craig, 50, has stared as James Bond since he took over from Pierce Brosnan in 2005.

Elba, 45, has previously dismissed rumours and said he had not had any discussions with the studio about taking over the role.

Daniel Craig's next Bond film is slated to release in 2019 and the film will be directed by Danny Boyle.
