A truck driver has been charged in connection with the death of 23-year-old Aussie tourist Madison Lyden, who was killed yesterday while riding a rented bicycle near Central Park in NY.

Police say 23-year-old Madison Jane Lyden was riding in the bike lane when a black Toyota pulled out of a parking space and into the bike lane.

She was struck by an oncoming sanitation truck, driven by Chairez, and flew off the bike, hitting the concrete.

"Here's someone doing everything possible, [she was] clearly driving in the bike lane".

Both drivers remained on the Upper West Side scene.

Lance Armstrong shares selfie of bloody face after bike crash in Colorado
The disgraced USA cyclist reported that he "took quite the blow to the noggin" and was checked out at Aspen Valley Hospital. It's not hard to see how even a thoroughly skilled cyclist like Armstrong could get tripped up.

The woman was taken to the Roosevelt Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

A regard of Lyden's Facebook page revealed her living in Geelong, Melbourne and hailing from Tasmania and appearing to be on worldwide travels.

Friends and family in Australia were devastated to learn her trip of a lifetime could have ended so tragically as news of her death reached home. Madison's wall listed her as a former Swim Instructor at Leisurelink and a student of MacKillop College.

The NYPD's Collision Investigation Squad is investigating the incident, which happened near 70 Central Park West.

The 23-year-old was cycling near Central Park when she swerved to avoid an Uber.
