Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth out of 'Star Trek 4'

Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth out of 'Star Trek 4'

Pine had reportedly signed on for a fourth movie when he re-upped for Star Trek Beyond.

It looks like some pay issues are causing the recent movement on Star Trek 4 to stall.

But as Hemsworth and Pine's original deal to return was made BEFORE Star Trek Beyond's release, Paramount are seemingly re-crunching the numbers to account for a franchise that has suddenly become $100 million more worrisome than it was before. Chris Pine was expected to essay Captain James Kirk and Chris Hemsworth his deceased father George Kirk from the first film through time travel.

Right now, deals with all other returning cast members, including Hemsworth's fellow Marvel co-star Zoe Saldana, along with Simon Pegg, John Cho, Karl Urban and Zachary Quinto, are expected to close. Pine though has been the leading man of the Star Trek films since 2009's Star Trek.

Second round of the PGA Championship to continue Saturday
US Open champion Koepka and Schwartzel both missed putts on the last for 62s that would have equalled the lowest round in a major. Moments later, Tiger hit a brilliant tee shot at the 132-yard par-3 third hole to five feet, setting up a simple birdie putt.

Since "Star Trek Beyond" grossed only $343 million worldwide on a budget of $190 million, the studio is reportedly trying to make this one on a much smaller budget. Pine and Hemsworth are said to be asking for the studios to stick to existing deals, while sources tell THR that Paramount is holding firm to a budget, insisting that the Trek franchise is not successful on the level of something like Marvel. Well, when a fourth Trek film was announced in 2016, Pine, at least, had a tentative deal in place.

It's not yet clear what will happen to Star Trek 4 from this point on.

THR reports that one insider says the companies actually lost money on the movie.

The Hollywood trade sites are reporting that talks with Paramount and Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth have broken down, which has seen the pair leave the movie. That was higher than the $228 million domestic for Star Trek Into Darkness. If that's not an option, then they'll give into the two actors' wishes and bring them back to the table, probably giving them the salary that they want, or were already owed in their contract. S.J. Clarkson was tapped to direct the project, potentially making her the first female director for a Star Trek movie. Paramount proper now has no comment on this situation.
