Police charged a Wake Forest assistant basketball coach Thursday with assault in connection with an incident Sunday that resulted in the death of a man in NY.

According to police, Jones allegedly punched Sandor Szabo in the face following a confrontation in the early morning hours Sunday that began when Szabo knocked on Jones' vehicle window thinking it was his Uber ride.

The New York Post reported that Szabo, a native of Boca Raton, Fla., was visiting New York for his stepsister's wedding.

Among the cars Szabo allegedly approached was one driven by Jones, which led to their confrontation.

Szabo, also 35, was taken off life support Tuesday.

Jones, who has been on Wake Forest head coach Danny Manning's staff since May 2017, reportedly turned himself in to police Thursday morning while accompanied by a lawyer. He is awaiting arraignment on an assault charge.

Wake Forest released a statement Thursday night saying, "We have just been made aware of this matter and we are gathering information".

According to Jones' biography page on the Wake Forest website, he coached college basketball at Central Florida, Florida Gulf Coast and Virginia Commonwealth before coming to Wake Forest.
