Qualcomm announces event for September 10, may unveil new processor for smartwatches

Qualcomm boosts mid-range smartphone AI with Snapdragon 670 mobile platform

On Wednesday, the U.S. chipmaker revealed the new mobile platform, the latest addition to the mid-range Snapdragon 600 tier. As expected from any new silicon release, Qualcomm is promising performance improvements across the board.

However, the refresh of the Snapdragon 600 family to include enhanced AI, reminiscent of the higher processor range, may entice vendors of less expensive devices to also explore the possibilities of such next-generation technologies. "Set your watches." It will not be a surprising move by the chipmaker, as Snapdragon Wear 2100 SoC that now powers most of the Wear OS devices is getting quite old.

Qualcomm is touting that the Snapdragon 670 is the first 600-series processor to feature the Spectra 250 image signal processor.

Two performance cores clocking in at up to 2.0GHz and six efficiency cores up to 1.7GHz make for 15% higher performance than the SD 660.

IPhone X Plus Is Real, iOS 12 Beta Confirms
He's been at it again, picking apart iOS 12 beta 5 to see what he can see and as it turns out, that might be the iPhone X Plus. The iPhone 9, as some reports are calling it, appears to have a glass back and this is a black colour-variant.

But AI performance sounds like it has been given even more of a boost, with Qualcomm claiming that it's up to 1.8 times better. While the sensor support is no different from the 660's, the new ISP will provide improved digital image stabilization and other nifty features.

Caffe, Caffe2, TensorFlow, TensorFlowLite, and Open Neural Network Exchange (ONNX) are supported by the engine.

Qualcomm says that it is building this chip because of demand by manufacturers, which means there's also demand for such handset price points by consumers. The SD 670 mobile platform is already available to OEMs, so we can expect to see upper mid-range phones shipping with it later in the year.
