Mobile Essential plan debuts with unlimited basics

T-Mobile Essentials: new unlimited data plan

As a result, T-Mobile's big boast with its Essentials plan is that you can get four lines for $30 per line.

As always, T-Mobile is listening to customers, and T-Mobile Essentials is designed for those who say they just want the basics: unlimited talk, text and smartphone data in the US - all at the industry's best price, only $30 per line for a family of four with autopay. T-Mobile warns that during congested network hours "Essentials customers may notice speeds lower than other customers". For comparison, a two-line T-Mobile ONE plan will cost you $120 per month, while four lines costs $160.

Pricing starts at just $60 per month for the first line, provided you are set up on the automatic bill payment. At the same time, T-Mobile has bundled several optional features to create a new T-Mobile ONE Plus option for users who want to pile on some extras. It offers unlimited talk, text and smartphone data.

Currently, we dont know if T-Mobile Tuesdays and Music Freedom would be limited to T-Mobile ONE plans from now on. You'll need to get a credit approval to sign up.

T-Mobile's Essential plan sits below the carrier's "One" plan that includes a Netflix subscription with two or more lines of service, Gogo in-flight Wi-Fi, worldwide roaming and other goodies.

While it may seem like the company's latest offer isn't much of a deal, T-Mobile is keeping its more powerful Netflix-included, One option around and is not changing its price.

The new offer sees T-Mobile introducing a three-tier system in its plans. This might make things complicated for current and potential T-Mobile customers.

"The Un-carrier wants to make it easy", CEO John Legere said in a press release. All of those prices are with autopay enabled; if you forgo autopay, you'll pay $5/month extra per line. The Essentials plan is created to save the carrier money and confuse customers in the process. Is T-Mobile still the UnCarrier? Taxes and fees are also not included in that rate.
