Manchester United table take-it-or-leave-it £40 million bid for Toby Alderweireld

Manchester United star Antonio Valencia is returning to full fitness

Manchester United have finally reached an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur for the transfer of Toby Alderweireld, according to the Express.

It is common knowledge by now that Alderweireld is ready to call it quits at Tottenham after repeatedly rejecting renewal offers by the North Londoners over the last few months.

The Mirror cite sources at the club who won't rule out Alderweireld becoming Mourinho's fourth signing of the summer by close of play tonight.

Martial's adviser Philippe Lamboley stated earlier this summer that his client was keen to leave United after failing to force his way into Mourinho's first choice line-up, yet Old Trafford chiefs have stated all summer that they are not willing to sell the player they signed from Monaco in a £58m deal in the summer of 2015 and that stance remains unchanged.

"He's come back with a good spirit and a fantastic attitude". With several years of experience in the English top flight, Alderweireld is a seasoned campaigner, whose ball playing abilities can add a new dynamic to Mourinho's defensive unit.

The 20-time English champions will only pay £40 million to land the Belgian global, with their final offer of the same value already tabled to Tottenham.

Recently, Bayern Munich's Jerome Boateng turned down United's offer and Leicester City defender Harry Maguire's price tag is £75 million and the Red Devils are not likely to pay such a massive amount.

Alderweireld has one year left on his current deal, after which the defender will be available for around £23m as per his release clause.

However United are not giving up hope a transfer could still go through.

Speaking on the Sky Sports Transfer Talk podcast, Terreur said: "If there is a deal, it will be a deadline day deal".
