Facebook apologises after confetti and balloons appear on natural disaster posts

The natural disaster which hit Indonesia's Lombok island on Sunday evening killed at least 347 people, and officials say the death toll is likely to increase.

Officials said the quake's epicentre was on land and so there was no risk of a tsunami.

The US Geological survey reported a 5.2-magnitude natural disaster just off the coast of Lombok between the tourist town of Senggigi and the Gili Islands on Monday at 11.50pm.

A witness told Reuters the aftershock sent people into the streets in panic and caused buildings to collapse.

Speaking to The Washington Post by phone en route to a badly-damaged village, he said nearly 80 percent of the buildings and structures, including homes, schools and community facilities, have been destroyed in that area.

He said victims can be counted several times because of the common practice of people in Indonesia using several names and noted that families of victims are entitled to financial compensation from the government when a death is confirmed.

The updated figure was announced shortly after a strong aftershock shook the island, where tens of thousands of people have been left homeless. More than 1,000 schools have been damaged, the organization said.

Alan Shearer And Ian Wright Make Their Premier League Predictions
BT Sport is delighted to reveal the Premier League games it will show exclusively live on TV and online in October and November. However, Pep said, albeit very briefly and casually, that City were not expecting anyone new in.

"I visited villages yesterday that were completely collapsed".

The island was still recovering after two other recent earthquakes when the tremor happened.

But other government agencies are putting out conflicting information that suggests the actual figure could rise to as many as 381, while local media has reported 347 people have been killed.

Thousands of tourists visiting Lombok - as well as the nearby Gili Islands and Bali - have been evacuated or have chosen to leave since the weekend.

Some evacuees have complained of being ignored or experiencing long delays for supplies to arrive at shelters.

The Indonesian Red Cross said it had set up 10 mobile clinics in the north of the island.

Aid groups say children are particularly vulnerable, with many sleeping in open fields and suffering illnesses from lack of warm clothing and blankets.
