May still believes Britain will win a good Brexit deal: spokesman

Theresa May

Lobby group Maritime UK has urged the British government and European Union to extend the Article 50 process if a Brexit deal is not agreed by October.

With less than eight months until Britain quits the European Union, the government has yet to agree a divorce deal with Brussels and has stepped up planning for the possibility of leaving the bloc without any formal agreement.

A "no-deal" Brexit poses a serious and substantial risk to public safety, with police officers at risk of losing vital access to information and powers, Britain's home secretary was told in a leaked letter published today.

But Mr. Fox claimed Michel Barnier, the EU's chief negotiator, had already dismissed the proposals, which "makes the chance of no deal greater".

Meanwhile, Labour's Brexit policy will be challenged by its members. They say a no-deal Brexit could cause economic turmoil, bringing higher food prices, logjams around United Kingdom ports and disruption to everything from aviation to medicine supplies.

May hopes to conclude a divorce deal and the broad outline of a future trade agreement by October, giving the United Kingdom and European parliaments until Britain's scheduled departure in March to debate and vote on the package.

Hot streak continues today; storm chances go up tonight and into Tuesday!
As a cold front begins a slow drop to the south tonight , coverage in storms will begin to impact the central part of the state. While no severe weather is expected, some storms still could produce some heavy rain and gusty winds reducing visibility.

May's office said in an emailed statement Sunday that while the government is "confident" of securing a deal, "it is the job of a responsible government to prepare for all scenarios".

The UK's International Trade Secretary made the comments yesterday.

Last week, Mrs May cut short her summer holiday to meet with French president Emmanuel Macron.

"Our negotiating advantages are meaningless without leadership fearless enough for the task", wrote Patel, often touted in the United Kingdom press as a potential contender in any future leadership contest to succeed May.

The negotiations come at a delicate time for May, who in recent months has seen a string of resignations in her party over her Brexit plans - most notably Brexit secretary David Davis and foreign secretary Boris Johnson.
