The plane left the Buchanan Field Airport in Concord at 10:23 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive at John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana at 12:30 p.m., according to FlightAware.com.

When the engine failed the aircraft began free-falling from the sky and before landing in an empty parked auto outside of a Staples store.

The Orange County Fire Authority said fire and rescue units were sent to a the 3900 block of Bristol Street for a report of a plane down.
