War with Iran is the mother of all wars, Rouhani tells Trump

Earlier this month Rouhani hinted that Tehran may block regional oil exports if its own sales are halted

Iran's semi-official ISNA news agency quoted President Hassan Rouhani as warning Trump on Sunday: "Do not play with the lion's tail or else you will regret it".

"America should know that peace with Iran is the mother of all peace, and war with Iran is the mother of all wars", the president said.

"You are not in a position to incite the Iranian nation against Iran's security and interests", Rouhani said.

Having withdrawn from the landmark 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers, Washington is determined to isolate Iran and pile on economic pressure with a full reimposition of sanctions, starting in August.

The comment comes after the Trump administration launched an online campaign to undermine the Iranian regime, in conjunction with a series of sanctions.

The report also said officials in Washington have launched a campaign meant to pressure Iran to end its nuclear program and its support of militant groups in the Middle East by creating unrest among its citizens. Rouhani made his comments a day after Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that negotiating with the US would be useless. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei says negotiations with Europe must continue but Iranians must not wait for their offer.

North Korea's economy just had its worst year in two decades
After Pompeo's visit, North Korea accused his delegation of making "gangster-like" demands in connection with denuclearization. BBC notes that Trump's position regarding denuclearization appears to counter what he had said before he met with Kim.

Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Saturday that negotiations with the United States are "useless" because it does not abide by agreements.

If the United States stops exports, Iran would halt oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, Esmail Kowsari, deputy commander of the Sarollah Revolutionary Guards base in Tehran, said earlier this month.

"Although the incumbent USA administration does not make military threats, there is credible information that in the past year and a half, it has been trying to push the USA military to invade [Iran]".

US officials, including Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, have expressed support for the Iranian people and "their struggle for freedom".

Iran may block oil tankers from using the Strait of Hormuz in response to possible United States sanctions over the country's nuclear programme.

Washington initially planned to totally shut Iran out of global oil markets after Trump abandoned the deal that limited Iran's nuclear ambitions, demanding all other countries to stop buying its crude by November.
