Cadbury's to launch Dairy Milk bar with 30 percent less sugar

Dairy Milk

Nestle began launching lower sugar versions of treats early last ear, starting with KitKat and then Aero and Smarties.

Mondelez said a team of 20 scientists, nutritionists and chocolatiers worked for nearly two years at its Reading and Bournville facilities to cut sugar without adding any artificial sweeteners, colours or preservatives.

Cadbury's have announced that a new Dairy Milk will hit the shelves from next year.

A team of 20 scientists and "choc experts" have reportedly been working on the reformulated bar for two years and have worked out how to replace some of the sugar with a type of fibre that has the same structure, rather than adding artificial sweeteners, according to The Sun.

Cadbury owner Mondelez International said the launch marks "the most significant innovation in the brand's history", and claimed it underscored the company's "ongoing commitment" to helping tackle child obesity in the UK.

Glenn Caton, president of Northern Europe, Mondelēz global said: "Our brands have been around for hundreds of years".

Cadbury Dairy Milk has been around since 1905 - with more or less the same recipe.

He set the tone with a pair of opening birdies at 1 & 2 before adding another red number at the par-5 6th. You get ebbs and flows and hit a low point, but I've really enjoyed golf the last six, seven weeks.

Jelly Babies, Wine Gums & Oreo bars are all set to get a sugar slash too.

A spokesperson for Mondelez said the new bars will taste "subtly different" to the full-sugar version, but they would "maintain the same taste profile".

In the new bar the sugar content will be 39g per 100g, down from 56g per 100g in the traditional one, however the calorie content will be similar.

Earlier this year, when the sugar tax came into play, brands like Irn Bru and Britvic changed their recipes to reduce the sugar in their drinks. It's been tested extensively on consumers and they love it.

"Taking sugar out of our products isn't easy and will take time".

"This announcement shows reducing sugar in chocolate confectionery is possible and we look forward to seeing future reductions across more of its confectionery range".
