UK Prime Minister Theresa May narrowly escapes attempt to kill her

ISIS fanatic guilty of planning to behead Theresa May and attack Parliament

His co-accused, Naa'imur Rahman, 20, was convicted of preparing to attack Downing Street in the hope of killing the prime minister.

He had pledged allegiance to IS and collected what he thought was an explosives-packed jacket and rucksack when he was arrested last November.

Rahman, originally from Walsall but most recently homeless in London, asked an undercover team for help with explosives for an attack and walked away with a fake bomb following an elaborate sting.

In a chat with an undercover security service agent on the Telegram messaging app, Rahman said: "I want to do a suicide bomb on parliament". I want to attempt to kill Theresa May.

Briefly.co.za gathered that the details of the violent plans of Naa'imur Zakariyah Rahman were heard at the Old Bailey where he has been on trial with another man, 22-year-old Mohammad Aqib Imran, accused of planning to travel overseas either to Libya or Syria to engage in terrorism.

Imran, 22, from Birmingham, was convicted of possessing a terrorist handbook.

The jury is still considering a charge against Imran of preparing terrorist acts overseas.

He was found guilty at the Old Bailey of preparing acts of terrorism in Britain.

Eight people, including Ms Boden, were killed when terrorists attacked members of the public on London Bridge and at Borough Market.

Rahman had been under surveillance by officers from the Metropolitan Police and MI5 who posed as ISIS operatives and corresponded with him.

An examination of his mobile phone raised concern he may be harbouring extremist views.

Rahman was encouraged to carry out his plans by his uncle, who had travelled to Syria and was killed in a drone strike.

Rahman had been planning to carry out the attack for two years but his resolve was hardened when he heard that his uncle had been killed in a drone attack in 2017, Haydon added.

By early November previous year, he appeared settled on an attack on 10 Downing street with a suicide bomb, gun or knife. "I can't get [martyrdom] if I get caught".

Rahman told the court that he motivated Imran to join the IS in Libya.

A "full frontal assault" with a knife and bomb was to take place on November 28, last year, the Old Bailey heard.
