Remains of suspected serial killer Bruce McArthur's 8th victim identified

Majeed Kayhan 58

Police in Toronto say the remains of all eight known victims of an alleged serial killer have now been identified.

After searches at every other property linked to McArthur came up empty, investigators armed with canine units trained to detect human remains returned to Mallory Crescent for a nine-day-long search.

Authorities previously identified remains of seven victims of suspected killer Bruce McArthur.

"Although the examination and identification of remains continues, we do not have any evidence to suggest that Mr. McArthur is responsible for anything more than the eight murders to which he stands charged".

"Bruce McArthur is already charged with the murder of Majeed Kayhan, whom we allege was killed in 2012", Det.

Toronto police said human remains were located almost every day of the nearly two week dig.

Idsinga said he has spoken to Kayhan's family since the identification of the man's remains and said they are going through a "very difficult" time.

Idsinga made it clear at the time that police would return to the home when the weather warmed as part of a massive sweep that saw investigators search approximately 100 properties.

Along with Navaratnam and Faizi, the remains of McArthur's other alleged victims - Andrew Kinsman, Selim Esen, Dean Lisowick, Soroush Mahmudi and Kirushna Kanagaratnam - were recovered from planters the landscaper stored at the Mallory Crescent property. All eight went missing between 2010 and 2017.

Prudhomme singled out selfie-taking fans - suggesting that officials could ban them from running behind the riders during the mountain stages - and those who lit flares along the course.

"It's important for the families for closure, for the victims themselves, and for the community ... as a whole", he said.

Idsinga adds in the meantime, they are still checking cold cases to see if there's any connection to McArthur. No other searches are anticipated, Idsinga said. In February, he was also charged in the death of Skandaraj Navaratnam.

"There are eight victims that we've identified and I hope that it remains at just eight victims".

"It's a very hard time for them", Idsinga said.

"There are a rash of murders from the 70s and 80s that remain unsolved".

"Of course they were eternally hopeful that what has happened ultimately wouldn't happen", he said.

"They're very angry and they're angry at, I think, the right person, which is McArthur".

Idsinga said police are still receiving tips from around the world.

McArthur is due back in court on July 23.
