Throne Speech Opens Parliament to Take Action to Help the People

Doug Ford has decided his first order of business will be to get rid of the carbon tax

On education, only days after the Ford government announced the return of Ontario's 1998 sexual education curriculum in schools, the Conservative government said they would end the province's math curriculum, know as "Discovery Math", in order to "focus on fundamentals that allow our children to succeed".

The new sex-ed curriculum sparked controversy, particularly among social conservatives, when the Liberal government introduced it.

Ontario's new Progressive Conservative government played up key campaign promises Thursday in its first throne speech, which also included more recent policy pledges but no new announcements. That pre-dates same-sex marriage, smart phones and sexting.

Asked Thursday what advice he has given Ford about dealing with the sex-ed curriculum, McVety told reporters its "what [Ford] is saying".

The current Ontario government says that the abolition of this program will allow families and businesses in the province to save $1.9 billion annually. "And we are cancelling unnecessary renewable energy projects to help lower your electricity bills".

"It is just a real honour and a privilege to be able to serve Guelph", he said.

The older curriculum will remain in effect until the government completes a "fulsome consultation respecting parents" on how to modernize the material, she said.

Parents unleashed their backlash over the new curriculum at the onset, with some removing their children from classes in protest.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle mobbed by fans on Dublin tour
Granted, before marrying Prince Harry , Meghan was a successful actress and was no stranger to living in the public eye. When a little boy posed for some photographs with Meghan he played with her hair and the Duchess lit up.

"A race back in time will only put students at risk and deny young people the supports, dignity and the equality that they deserve", said Horwath.

McVety said discussions around gender fluidity are one of those "experiments".

Already "save sex-ed" rallies are being organized in cities like Barrie and Ottawa.

The new board will be responsible for appointing a new CEO.

NDP Leader Andrea Horwath is seizing on the issue, meeting Friday morning with concerned community members in Toronto's gay village.

Overall, McVety maintained that he's "for sex education, it's needed, but it needs to be based on parents, not based on post-graduate researchers".

"First of all, (1998) was 12 education ministers ago - that's last century", she said. "You can clearly see that Doug Ford in the earlier days of his premiership has gotten down to business".
