Serena Williams rallies to reach Wimbledon semifinals

"This is tough because I can not see myself from the side".

Federer saved three break points in the eighth game of the third set. In the second set, Williams served first and held but Giorgi leveled. Williams unleashed some savage forehands that rocked the Italian then secured her first break with a crosscourt victor.

Williams said: "I felt good to get through it because it was a tough match".

But one familiar name remains in the program - Serena Williams.

Having shaken off the rust following her lengthy lay-off after the complications with Olympia's birth, Serena is on the verge of a 30th Grand Slam final berth. It's 2-2 so far.

Ostapenko is within sight of a second grand slam crown in 13 months after surging into the Wimbledon semifinals for the first time.

Her path to the title has been wide open from early in the tournament as Garbine Muguruza, Maria Sharapova, Simona Halep, Petra Kvitova, Venus Williams, Caroline Wozniacki and Sloane Stephens have all been eliminated. Could we see more of the same today?

Serena Williams had to come from a set down to unseeded Italian Camila Giorgi to reach the Wimbledon semifinals for the 11th time. The players will be out on the Centre Court soon. The German is through to final. Kerber took the first set 6-3.

On her own serve Rodina was tossed about the court like a rag doll.

Williams, for the first time since her comeback, appears to have her body and mind aligned to take that next step.

Did England attempt to score while Croatia celebrated second goal?
After taking an early lead, England mustered just one more effort on target through John Stones' 98th min header. Croatia's previous best showing at the World Cup was a semifinal final loss against France in 1998.

Bertens and Pliskova had reached the fourth round at Wimbledon for the first time. She stays alive in the contest. Ostapenko gives up chase midway thinking it was going out, but the ball manages to land inside the line.

"You never know what to expect from her [Ostapenko]", Cibulkova said.

Seventeen months ago, Williams won her last major, the 2017 Australian Open, while pregnant.

The world number 20 was much more nimble than her opponent and broke straight back to lead 4-3, then sealed the set with a break to love when Pliskova netted a forehand under pressure. Ostapenko saves one with a down the line victor, but after a weak second serve, Ostapenko finds the net and concedes the break.

The 21-year-old is the only female player yet to drop a set in this year's tournament. She consolidates by winning her service game to go 5-3 up.

Seven-time champion Serena Williams reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals with a straightforward win over Russian qualifier Evgeniya Rodina.

Serena Williams will face Julia Goerges in the semi-final of the women's bracket at Wimbledon 2018 on Thursday, the same day Angelique Kerber will meet Jelena Ostapenko in the last four.

Still, Williams said she's not getting too excited as she's still adjusting to tennis after returning from maternity leave.

The 36-year-old lost her first set of this year's event against the hard-hitting Giorgi, world No 52, who matched the American for aggression on serve and from the baseline.
