Stephen Lynch was confused with Louie Gohmert during Peter Strzok hearing

FBI Deputy Assistant Director Peter Strzok testifies before the House Committees on the Judiciary and Oversight and Government Reform during a hearing

"I have the utmost respect for Congress's oversight role, but I truly believe that today's hearing is just another victory notch in Putin's belt and another milestone in our enemies' campaign to tear America apart", Strzok said in his opening remarks.

Strzok was a lead agent in both the Russian Federation probe and the investigation into 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server while she served as secretary of state. An inspector general report last month blamed Strzok and FBI lawyer Lisa Page for creating an appearance of impropriety through their texts but found that the outcome of the Clinton investigation wasn't tainted by bias.

Trump - who mocks Page and Strzok as the "FBI lovers" - blasted Page's decision not to appear Thursday in a tweet, lamenting the "corruption on the other side" and again calling out Attorney General Jeff Sessions to do something about it.

"Sir, that's an expression of speech".

And yet some analysts couldn't help but notice a hint of irony in Republicans' argument that Strzok's personal views must have influenced his official duty, while they simultaneously conduct investigations into politicians they openly support or oppose.

Strzok expressed little regret for the most controversial text exchange with Page. "It was the existence of your bias that got you kicked off", Gowdy said.

"To suggest we can parse down the shorthand like they're some contract for a vehicle is simply not consistent with my or most people's use of text messaging", Strzok said, practically yelling at Gowdy.

"I do not have bias", he continued, adding that he believed he was sacked not because his personal opinions impacted his work, but because the texts gave the "perception" of bias.

Theresa May faces guerilla tactics from Brexit rebels
The Sun , Britain's biggest-selling newspaper, which has long argued for Brexit, said May had made "blunder after blunder". There was a crisis in government, he said, adding: "It is clear this government can not secure a good deal for Britain".

"Well then why did you get kicked off?"

"It was an opportunity for Agent Strzok to rehabilitate his reputation after nearly a year of - of smears", he said. Perception - you're saying it was the perception! "And potential criminal liability - do you understand that?"

Strzok has met with members of the House Judiciary Committee privately, but his hearing scheduled for Thursday is open. "I don't appreciate having an FBI agent with an unprecedented level of animus working on two major investigations in 2016". Strzok's lawyer said he was escorted from the Federal Bureau of Investigation building last month as the disciplinary process proceeds.

The committee's ranking member, Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), told reporters as he headed into the meeting with Page on Friday that he expected her to get numerous same questions as Strzok.

"Credibility of a witness is always an issue", Gohmert retorted over the commotion.

"The fact that you would accuse me otherwise - the fact that you would question whether or not that was the sort of look I would engage with in a family member who I have acknowledged hurting - goes more to a discussion about your character and what you stand for and what is going inside you".

After she did not appear on Wednesday, House Speaker Paul Ryan that "congressional subpoenas for testimony are not optional", warning Page that the House could move to hold her in contempt if she did not comply.
