Lawsuits alleging Roundup caused cancer can move forward

It has since been sold in more than 160 countries.

Wisner added, "Between now and then, it's just nothing but pain".

Lee Johnson worked for Benicia School District in 2012, becoming the integrative pest manager. At times, when the wind was strong, the chemical would cover Johnson's face. In 2014, he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma.

Wisner said Johnson read the product's label and at one point contacted the company when he started to develop a rash.

Monsanto contests the allegations and in a statement said it would continue to defend the lawsuits with evidence proving there is "absolutely no connection between glyphosate and cancer".

California already considers the Roundup's active ingredient, glyphosate, to be a carcinogen, as does the World Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer.

Insurers See 'Uncertainty' From Trump Administration Payment Halt
The administration is also pushing to broaden the definition of short-term insurance, which is also exempted from the ACA's rules. Now, months later, CMS has asked the New Mexico judge to reconsider the decision, and in the meantime, it suspended the program.

Monsanto also pointed to sections of the opinion that questioned the plaintiffs' evidence.

The lawsuits allege that glyphosate, the herbicide in the widely used Roundup, can cause non-Hodgkin's lymphoma - and that Monsanto didn't warn consumers or regulators about that alleged risk.

Citing expert testimony from three doctors who spoke on plaintiffs' behalf, Chhabria wrote in his ruling, "the opinions of these experts, while shaky, are admissible".

The company had told Chhabria in March that none of the plaintiffs' experts satisfied scientific or legal requirements for admissibility and urged the judge to dismiss the cases. "The best study of human beings who, like Mr. Johnson, are licensed pesticide applicators, concludes that glyphosate has no association with non-Hodgkin lymphoma".

A federal judge in Sacramento in February blocked California from requiring that Roundup carry a label stating that it is known to cause cancer, saying the warning is misleading because nearly all regulators have concluded that there is no evidence glyphosate is carcinogenic.

Monsanto introduced glyphosate in the market in the 1970s. A draft report by the agency a year ago concluded the herbicide is not likely to be carcinogenic to people.
