Few details have come out about the plot, but the Guardian reported that the story "is expected" to pick up in 1926, where the series finale ended things, which could mean that the stars from earlier seasons who were killed off wouldn't be returning.

"Downton Abbey" cast members (L-R) Penelope Wilton, Elizabeth McGovern, Michelle Dockery, Laura Carmichael and Joanne Froggatt attend a photo call in Beverly Hills, California August 1, 2015.

Focus Features said Friday that it will this summer begin production on a Downton film that will reunite the Crawley family on the big screen.

Gareth Neame, the film's producer, said, "Now, after getting many stars aligned, we are shortly to go into production". "We're thrilled to join this incredible group of filmmakers, actors and craftspeople, led by Julian Fellowes and Gareth Neame, in bringing back the world of Downton to the big screen". The show's narrative started in 1912, at the time the Titanic sunk, and followed the Crawleys through the horrors of World War I, and left us at the tail end of 1925.

In addition, Rios said, the Ketchikan Volunteer Rescue Squad had chartered four helicopters to assist the Coast Guard. Taquan Air says it's co-operating with authorities examining the circumstances surrounding the Tuesday morning crash.

It's upstairs-downstairs on the big screen this time. Not sure Downton would be the same without them.

Across six seasons of its original run, Downton Abbey - set in the wealthy Crawley family's country estate as it followed their intricate lives as well as those of the servants they employed at the turn of the 20th century - garnered a steady global following and sustained critical acclaim.

The cast and crew of Downton Abbey will cordially invite moviegoers to theaters all across the globe when Julian Fellowes' film makes its debut. The movie will be produced by Carnival films and distributed by Focus Features and Universal Pictures International. In addition to producing Downton Abbey, the company is responsible for current primetime series such as The Last Kingdom for Netflix and Jamestown and Stan Lee's Lucky Man for Sky One.

During the course of six series, it became the most nominated non-American TV show in the history of the Emmy Awards.
