DOJ reopens Emmett Till case after ‘new information’ arises

Despite the fact that white men J.W. Milam and Roy Bryant later admitted to ruthlessly killing Till in a Look magazine meet after they were cleared by an all-white jury. His murderers then strapped a cotton gin fan to his neck with barbed wire so it would weigh him down when they tossed him in the Tallahatchie River. "Nothing that boy did could ever justify what happened to him", the book quotes her as saying. Sen.

It's unclear what, if any, new charges the federal government will be able to bring in Till's murder.

With the main suspects long dead, the case had been closed since 2007.

Donham told police in 1955 that Till, a 14-year-old black boy from Chicago, whistled at her and tried to grab her inside a store in Money, Miss.

Till's cousin, Deborah Watts, said she was not told the case was reopened until AP contacted her but said it was "wonderful".

Thursday, the Associated Press reported that, back in March of this year, the Justice Department revealed the reopening to Congress in a report and cited "new information".

Mississippi District Attorney Dewayne Richardson, whose circuit oversees the community in which Emmett was abducted, offered his opinion on the development.

The report issued in late March doesn't indicate what that information might be.

The court has not made a decision to impose any precautionary measures on Puigdemont, meaning that he remains a free man. Rebellion carries a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison, while misuse of public funds carries up to 12 years.

At one point, the men recalled, Emmett told them, "You bastards, I'm not afraid of you".

Two white men were acquitted in Till's lynching, but later confessed.

Emmett's mother, Mamie Till-Mobley, was horrified to see the state of her son's body when it was returned to her. The department declined to comment on the matter.

According to the Associated Press, Carolyn Bryant - who will turn 84 years old this month and goes by Carolyn Donham - lives in Raleigh, North Carolina.

It is not clear from the report what that information might be, but relatives of Till asked Attorney General Jeff Sessions to reopen the case after the book was published.

Moments after pulling away, she said the teenager "caught me at the cash register", grasped her around the waist with both hands and pulled her towards him. Deliberations took barely an hour, with one juror claiming the acquittal could've come sooner had they not stopped to have a soda.

Till's cousin, Wheeler Parker, said Thursday he's "pretty sure" an investigator asked him about what happened in a MS store the day Till whistled at a white woman before his slaying in 1955.
