In addition, Rios said, the Ketchikan Volunteer Rescue Squad had chartered four helicopters to assist the Coast Guard.

In another remarkable story of survival, it appears there were no fatalities when a plane carrying 11 people crashed Tuesday in a mountainous region of Alaska. "This one had a good outcome so far", he said.

"It was reported that 11 people from the plane crash are alive, but have injuries", the US Coast Guard said in a statement following the incident near the southeasternmost city of Ketchikan.

The Coast Guard said crews went to the area 40 miles south-southwest of Ketchikan, near Hetta Inlet, 2,000 feet in elevation on Mount Jumbo. "The aircraft emergency locator transmitter has been activated".

Cairo Explosion: Large Blast Hits Near Egypt Airport, Reports Say
There are very few details as yet, but there has been a massive explosion near Egypt's Cairo International Airport. Al Arabiya reported that the explosion took place near the airport's main fuel storage facility.

Taquan Air says it's co-operating with authorities examining the circumstances surrounding the Tuesday morning crash.

He says the Coast Guard, an area search and rescue team and a trooper were responding. The company says it's important to understand what happened to avoid similar incidents.

"We don't know specifically what the extent of those injuries are", Clint Johnson, of the National Transportation Safety Board, told the Anchorage Daily News. The pilot called 911 when the float equipped de Havilland Canada DHC-3T Turbo Otter seaplane crashed, and Alaska State Troopers alerted the Coast Guard about the crash at 8:45 a.m. local time.

DeSpain said the plane, which had taken off from Prince of Wales Island, was bound for Ketchikan.

All 11 people on board a plane survived a crash in Ketchikan, Alaska, on Tuesday, July 10, 2018. Residents can travel to Ketchikan by ferry or scheduled commuter flights.
