Wimbledon could detract from cup final, jokes Roger Federer

Kyle Edmund playing Bradley Klahn at Wimbledon Thursday. He went on to lose to Novak Djokovic two days later

Rather than worrying about what kind of disruption the World Cup final might cause to the two Wimbledon finalists, eight-times champion Roger Federer offered a different take on the potential clash.

If England defeats Croatia in Wednesday's semifinal, it will feature in a WC final for the first time since lifting the trophy in 1966.

"We are very excited about England's success in the World Cup".

The final will be played at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.

The rules of entry to the grounds of SW19 had previously stated that devices "must be switched off in and around the courts of play", although the rules appear to have been relaxed with England on the verge of reaching a historic final.

"For many years now we've had people using iPhones, or phones, mobile phones, tablets".

However, chief executive Richard Lewis confirmed earlier Monday there were no plans to move the men's final and that both the World Cup semifinals and final would not be shown on any big screen, as has been the club's policy since the beginning of the tournament.

George Clooney hospitalized after auto hits his scooter in Italy
The driver of the vehicle did stop to call for an ambulance, which took the 57-year-old to the nearest hospital, Today reports. He was said to be travelling 60mph at the time when the auto reportedly changed direction suddenly and collided with the bike.

Wimbledon is standing firm, however, on its decision not to change the start time of Sunday's men's final to avoid a conflict with the World Cup final, even if England makes it that far, Lewis reiterated.

"Saturday was a fantastic day at the championships".

Asked yesterday if he had concerns about noise from the Centre Court crowd, Federer light-heartedly replied: "I'm more concerned the World Cup final will have issues because the Wimbledon final is going on".

Said Lewis: "We want people to be able to enjoy in this modern era the fact that this is a tennis event but that there is something else very special going on".

On Saturday, a stream of ticket-holders left the tennis club for nearby pubs to watch England's triumphant quarter-final after Wimbledon bosses opted not to show the game on the big screen, while others gathered around iPads and phones on site.

Having said all of this, if England are 1-0 up at half-time, you can bet your life that if whoever is in charge of the big screen on Henman Hill doesn't change the channel, they'll be subject to a sustained verbal volley of a ferocity which John McEnroe could only dream of.
