Wimbledon 2018: Results, Highlights, Wednesday Scores Recap from London

Wimbledon

Roger Federer and his flawless run through the 2018 Wimbledon tennis tournament thus far next face Kevin Anderson in Wednesday's Men's Singles quarterfinals match.

Instead, it's the South African who is into his first Wimbledon semifinal after a 2-6, 6-7 (5), 7-5, 6-4, 13-11 marathon win. After that, Federer began to struggle and Anderson unloaded his swings on every shot.

Anderson stayed cool and sealed victory on his first match point with a powerful first serve which Federer could only return into the tramlines. About Anderson, Federer said: "He's got a nice, big serve that he can rely heavily on". Nerves and serves were severely tested in the afternoon sunshine, but Anderson, a 32-year-old who has cracked at such moments in the past, was the one who held firmest this time. While Federer in the quarter-final on Wednesday smashed only 16 aces, Anderson beat him there with 28 and that did make a difference eventually in the result.

Federer's first double fault of the match was perhaps the most costly error either player made. "I just kept telling myself this will be my day".

Anderson, a three-time All-American at IL, moves onto the semifinals of Wimbledon for the first time in his career.

Anderson had failed to take a single set off Federer in their previous four meetings.

"I was very happy that I got off to the right start of the match, was able to take control somewhat of the game". Federer raced to a two-set lead but Djokovic forced a fifth before running out of steam, both physically and mentally.

The 36-year-old had needed only 26 minutes to take the first set, leaving him horrified as a fifth successive Wimbledon semi-final slipped through his fingers from such a commanding position. And then came opportunity. Anderson will take on the victor of Milos Raonic and American John Isner.

France and Belgium fight it out for World Cup final place
France defender Lucas Hernandez said he was sure Henry would be happy if France beat his employers on Wednesday. The first semi final of the World Cup at Saint Petersburg between Belgium and France promises to be a classic.

'I don't think it really mattered, to be honest.

Three-time champion Novak Djokovic, meanwhile, reached his first semi-final at the majors in more than two years by seeing off Japan's Kei Nishikori 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. When Nishikori let his own racket fly in the fourth set, he wasn't chastised, which prompted Djokovic to yell "double standards" toward Ramos - drawing boos from fans.

The three-time champion spoke to Serbian media after his straight sets victory over Khachanov and revealed he has put in a request to play on Centre Court, having played there only once in this year's tournament.

Rafael Nadal has a bit of that on his side, with the world No.1 the sole player from the top seven in the men's rankings to reach the semi-finals. I think that was the key at the end.

Until this last-eight match, Federer had never lost a match in Wimbledon after holding the match point.

There's nothing really that shocked me because I've seen Kevin play many, many times in the past.

"That was something I learned from 2016 where I constantly tried to get back into competition too quickly".
