British man injured in Amesbury incident regains consciousness

Charlie's partner Dawn Sturgess, 44, died this past Sunday.

Police and Crime Commissioner for Wiltshire and Swindon, Angus Macpherson, said: "I am grateful that the government has pledged £4.1m towards the costs incurred by Wiltshire Police during the investigation into the attack on Yulia and Sergei Skripal".

Around 100 counter terrorism experts are now hunting for the source of the contamination, which is thought to be a container used in the original assassination attempt of former Russian double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in March.

A British man exposed to the Novichok nerve agent has regained consciousness, and is now in a critical but stable condition, according to the hospital treating him. Moscow has rejected the accusations and has hit back by expelling Western diplomats. Sturgess died as a result of her exposure on Sunday.

He also said police could not guarantee there were no more traces of Novichok, developed by the Soviet military during the Cold War, still in England.

"Charlie is still very unwell", the hospital said.

The Skripals fell ill after the poison was applied to the ex-spy's front door in the city of Salisbury.

Sweet 16 for Roger Federer at Wimbledon
The 32-year-old became the first South African man into the last eight at the All England Club since Wayne Ferreira in 1994. Julia Goerges advanced to her first Wimbledon semifinal with a 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 victory over 20th-seeded Kiki Bertens.

Basu has previously said that due to the high dose that Sturgess and Rowley received, the hypothesis was they must have handled a contaminated container.

"At this stage, we can not say with certainty that both the incident in March and this latest incident are linked, " Basu told attendees at Tuesday evening's community meeting.

Five site are now cordoned off in Amesbury and Salisbury after the poisoning of Charlie Rowley and Dawn Sturgess. Then London pinned all the blame on Moscow, but Russian Federation repeatedly refuted all allegations about its involvement in the incident.

Britain has notified the global chemical weapons watchdog, the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

It is believed that Mr Rowley, 45, touched a vessel that contained the deadly substance following the attempted assassination of Sergei and Yulia Skripal earlier this year. Sturgess and Rowley were found at a house in Amesbury, 11 km (7 miles) away. Her father was discharged on May 18.

"Our staff will continue to work hard to provide the care that Charlie needs", she said. "They did everything they could", Christine Blanshard, medical director at the hospital said.

Following the latest poisoning in Amesbury, British counter terrorism police have been scrambling to establish whether any other citizens may have been exposed to nerve agent.
