Trump Administration Will Miss Deadline to Reunite All Migrant Children Under 5

Christian from Honduras recounts his separation from his child at the border during a news conference at the Annunciation House,in El Paso Texas

Of the 102 children under age 5 who were supposed to be reunited by Tuesday, the government says it should be able to connect at least 54 of them with their parents, Sarah Fabian, the Justice Department lawyer, said in court.

The judge acknowledged that more time may be justified only in specific cases, but initially left the Tuesday deadline intact for children under age 5, along with a July 26 deadline to reunite all children age 5 and above with their parents.

Sabraw asked ACLU attorney Lee Gelernt for his take on whether the administration is "in full compliance to the extent it can be" with the court's deadline.

These provisions included DNA testing and background checks on unrelated people who might end up living in the same home as the reunited family.

The judge made clear that he wants to see us tomorrow and get updates and continue the process.

- Immigrant children around the US left shelters with their backpacks and a tender goodbye hug from staff members as the Trump administration began reuniting dozens of youngsters with their parents Tuesday under a court-ordered deadline. She said locations would not be publicly disclosed, but children have been sent to shelters across the country. As of Sunday evening, however, the ACLU said the government was on track to reunite less than half of those with their families. A few of the justifications are legitimate. Some parents are not eligible, the government said, because they have criminal records, were deemed to be unfit or, in one case, have a communicable disease. He asked attorneys for the government and the ACLU to file court papers by Monday night outlining their proposed reunification plans, with the ACLU calling for a more expedited process.

It was the first time the government indicated whether the parents and children would be released or detained together.

Friday's hearing was the latest in the ACLU lawsuit over the administration's family separations.

The children were taken from their parents under President Donald Trump's "zero tolerance" immigration policy, which called for the prosecution and detention of adult immigrants crossing the border without authorization.

Eight soccer team members rescued from flooded Thai cave, 5 remain trapped
When the boys are freed, they will immediately be taken to Chiangrai Prachanukroh hospital, around 60 miles from the cave site. Meanwhile, a letter of apology from the coach of the football team was delivered to the boys' parents via the cave divers.

We hope the government will find that parent, and we will also be looking.

And how old is that child?

The children are extremely traumatized, as the medical community expected they would be.

ICE has three family detention centers with room for about 3,000 people in all, and the places are already at or near capacity.

So far, two children under 5 years old have been returned to their families. "Delayed reunification, especially for babies and toddlers, is not in the best interests of the child".

The distance between many children and their parent or parents have been coupled with logistical challenges and resulted in a major bureaucratic snag. Romero was separated from his daughter, was leaving Texas for California to stay with family members until he can be reunited with his daughter who is in a facility in Arizona.

I don't anticipate them dragging on.

The infant is one of hundreds of children who have yet to be reunited with their parents, with many separated from their families under the Trump administration's recently rescinded "zero tolerance" family separation policy.
