Final Rescue Mission For Trapped Thai Boys' Football Team Is Underway

Divers rescue fifth boy from flooded Thailand cave

All 12 boys and their soccer coach trapped for more than two weeks deep inside a flooded Thai cave have been rescued, a Thai navy SEAL unit has confirmed. In a risky operation led by the Thai navy Seals, an worldwide team managed to get the boys through a complicated and often narrow exit route. The SEALs said on their Facebook page that the remaining four boys and their 25-year-old coach were all brought out safely Tuesday.

They were not the only members of football's fraternity to send their support to the Thai boys and their rescuers.

The 12-boy soccer team and their coach were rescued after surviving 17 days inside the flooded cave in northern Thailand.

Two of the eight rescued so far have shown signs of a potential lung infection, but there is a hope they could honour the invite. He said the efforts on Tuesday began just after 10 in the morning local time and involved 19 divers.

The rescued boys had not been identified out of respect for the families whose sons were still trapped, officials had said.

The first eight boys to exit the cave have been recovering in quarantine in Chiang Rai hospital.

They came out one by one, with four emerging on Sunday, four on Monday, and the remaining four and the coach extracted Tuesday.

Jesada said the group had been given x-rays and blood tests, adding that two presented suspected symptoms of pneumonia but were given antibiotics and were "in a normal state".

But against all odds, the rescue team was successful in extracting the group.

Hours after the rescue was confirmed, President Trump tweeted his congratulations, adding, "Such a lovely moment - all freed, great job!" Parents were allowed to visit, but have had to keep their distance.
